Run-up To The Full Moon In Libra

Happy Spring, everyone!

The astrological new year is just behind us now with the equinox on March 20th marking the Sun's ingress into Aries. The energy hums differently from the Piscean vibes of last week--and in more ways than one...

Venus followed the Sun and entered Aries on March 21, 2021. This is a pivotal time as the already invisible morning star Venus gets closer and closer to the Sun--eventually 'overtaking' the Sun and transitioning to the evening star phase. She will become visible in our skies again in late spring--stay tuned for a more in-depth look at Venus soon.

All of this happens against the back-drop of Mars in Gemini approaching the North Node of the Moon and the fading trine between Mars and Saturn in Aquarius. Mercury is coming closer to a conjunction with Neptune, and the Sun-Venus combo is coming closer to a conjunction with the asteroid of the wounded-healer, Chiron.

So what does this mean in the run-up to the Full Moon in Libra on March 28, 2021?

I see these energies as being potentially inflammatory if not surfed in an intentional way... Aries energy has a very elemental, proactive quality to it, and in its higher octave, it can show a daring or pioneering spirit; in its lower octave, however, there can be an impulse to rash decision-making, brash behavior, and irrational impatience.

This can be further complicated with the Mercury/Neptune conjunction: while there is potential for poetic words & visions, there is also the possibility of miscommunications & misunderstandings stemming from blurred lines & foggy boundaries.

And the energy of Mars approaching the North Node gives the vibe of a pressure-cooker wanting to vent....As Acyuta-bhava of Nightlight Astrology pointed out, all the planets minus the Moon are contained within one side of the nodal axis--and they are all direct, so the forward momentum is powerful…

As we approach the weekend then, and the full moon on Sunday, keep in mind that energies may be running high, there may be a feeling of pressure, or tightness, like something wants to burst forth, and it is worth pausing and breathing this week before we make any decsions or say anything we might feel needs doing RIGHT IN THAT MOMENT.

It’s also worth noting that the Libra Full Moon will see the Moon opposing not only the Sun, but also Libra’s ruler, Venus, as well as Chiron—all conjunct at 8°+ in Aries. So while Mars will have broken through the the “nodal container” and giving space for the steam to vent, the full moon itself will still be a challenging one with the Moon spotlighting mental/intellectual (Sun) wounds around identity, inadequacy, and independence (Chiron in Aries) being potentially connected to/treated/managed in a brusque or overly forth-right way (Venus in Aries).

The key here will be to lean into the Libran aesthetic towards balance and quite possibly explore the concept of Metta Bhavana, or loving-kindness meditation. The idea is to deliberately cultivate positive energy towards others, but in particular, those to whom we are indifferent, or really dislike. It’s not easy, but it can really be liberating in that it can open one’s heart. If we think of Love not as an emotion, but a state of being, then accessing this field can be truly powerful work in helping us manifest a better world—not just for ourselves, but for everyone.
