New Moon In Capricorn

The New Moon in Capricorn on January 12-13 will be intense. Given some of the aspects around this new moon, it also particularly lends itself to powerful new moon magic, so get your intention hats on and chant those mantras!

The first thing to note is that this new moon is conjunct (right next to) Pluto. New moons denote beginnings, while Pluto suggests the death of something old (a way of feeling or thinking?) in order to produce something new.

There is also a triple conjunction happening in the next sign over: Saturn, Jupiter, and Mercury are all conjunct in the early degrees of Aquarius. Saturn in its higher octaves suggests authority, discipline, and a kind of steadiness.

Jupiter is the part of ourselves that collects stories and synthesizes them. Jupiter can represent generosity and abundance while its lower octaves go to greed and excess.

Rounding up the trio, Mercury's energy is one of communication--although watch out for the trickster, wily side which has no compunctions around being deceptive...!!

Put it all together in Aquarius, the sign of the Water Bearer, pouring knowledge from his jug, leading to futuristic thinkers, advocating for radical social justice, while pursuing their uniqueness, and there is a possibility of a wealth (Jupiter) of deepening commitment (Saturn) to communicate these ideas of a better society (Aquarius).

The new moon sextiles (invites) Neptune while the latter still squares the lunar nodes (see previous post on this for more detail). Remember that Neptune is acting as a fulcrum between the South Node energy of trying to release our old beliefs and the North Node energy of connecting the dots as they appear.

The only dampener is this juicy mesh of possibility is Mars squaring Saturn exactly. Mars represents our drive, our passions, and forward movement. But Saturn wants to take things steady and will not tolerate the charging bull Mars could become in the sign of Taurus.

So there might be a feeling of start-stop, start-stop, one foot on the accelerator, while the other hits the brake. This aspect will continue until January 21st, so be aware of it and don't let any immediate, short-term setbacks frustrate you. After all, even with 3 steps forward and 2 steps back, there is still movement in the right direction, amirite??!
